July. / More than 30 countries have already expressed their desire to participate in the upcoming BRICS summit (Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa) in South Africa, which could thus become the most representative in the history of the organization. This is reported by the City Press newspaper published in Johannesburg on Thursday.

"Many countries are very interested in participating in the forum because they see the BRICS as the fastest growing group able to challenge NATO," the newspaper said. "Among them are European, Arab and African states. South Africa expects the summit to boost the country's economic growth, promote tourism and attract investment. President [Cyril] Ramaposa has already expressed confidence about the success of the summit and called on the country to give an appropriate reception to the delegates from all over the African continent and the world."

The BRICS summit will take place from the 22nd to the 24th. August in Johannesburg. Not only the heads of state and government of Brazil, China, India and South Africa are expected, but also presidents and government representatives from other countries in Africa, Asia and Latin America. Russian President Vladimir Putin has decided to attend the summit via video conference. The Russian head of state will participate fully despite the video format, said Dmitry Peskov, the spokesman for the Russian president.

Russia will be personally represented at the BRICS summit by Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov.

Ramaposa has invited the heads of state and government of all African countries to participate in the events of the summit. Heads of state and government of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations, the Caribbean Community and the members of the G77 are expected in Johannesburg.
